New
Wally Matt Lounge was
relocated on 31st March 1999 from Cornwall Avenue to Humphrey's
Avenue due to the Government's redevelopment plan. And we are still situated
in a very convenient location off Nathan Road, just a short walk from
Tsim Sha Tsui Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Station Exit A2.
The
originally bar, Waltzing
Matilda established in early 50's was known to be one of the oldest
gay bars in Hong Kong. It had always been the neighbourhood bar
where the locals meeting the Westerners. There was no barrier for
age group or nationality that made it unique to the gay community.
Over the years, some other gay bars were opened but did not survive
long enough. In the early stage, Waltzing Matilda was a popular
hang out place for the money boys until it was taken over and renamed
to Wally Matt Lounge in 1990. Since then, the money boys
disappeared and the bar became a more friendly meeting place. Such
change made it almost the landmark for Hong Kong gays also because
it had been the only gay bar on Kowloon side for a long time.
Owing to the needs of the market demand and IT development, we have
decided to make a step forward and give ourselves a new image, THE
FIRST INTERNET GAY BAR IN HONG KONG, that is to create a Web
Site of our own, and install a PC at the bar with full Internet
Access capability. Therefore, our customers can enjoy the good times
and at the same time gain access to their Email service in order
to stay in touch with the rest of the world. This is specially ideal
for tourists don't travel with their laptops but still be able to
send and receive Emails, or retrieving update information for their
next stop en-route.
